[From the collection “First Easy Tunes for Beginning Trumpet Players on TrumpetHeroes.com]
This tune really needs no introduction. It’s used often to celebrate the lives of people who were clearly not wretches in spite of the lyrics. It’s in this collection because it’s a great song. It’s also here because in the first two keys it provides opportunities to slur between notes with the same fingering. In fact, it would be a good one to slur all of the notes just to make things difficult! The first key is the lowest of the three and the easiest because there are valve changes to help with the note changes. The higher two keys have lots of slurs between same-fingering notes. Use these as opportunities to practice that skill. Pencil in some slurs so that you have to slur upward as well as downward just to make them more difficult.
