This is probably the least known song in this collection and I’ll confess that I’m on a one-man crusade to popularize it. In Scotland it’s as well known as all of the other ones but in North America it’s only known in concentrations of the Scottish diaspora. It’s a beautiful lullaby and should be played gently, without rushing. The version in F is likely to work best. Be sure of those low D’s. The second version, in Eb, is there to challenge you to play those Ab’s and Eb’s smoothly. There is a prize for anyone who knows what hirplin’ is. Just kidding, but there’s an opportunity to learn a new verb!
