That photo shows you the simplest answer to the question about what we need. A Trumpet, a mouthpiece and a case to put them in is the bare minimum. Just as there is no lifetime limit on learning for any musician there is no limit to how much equipment a Trumpet player might want. Fortunately it’s a game you can get into and stay in for a relatively small investment. (A good violin case can cost more than a good trumpet.) On the other hand, if you have the money and you like to spend it on Trumpets and stuff, the sky id the limit.

This is another good place to mention the value in buying used items. It takes a lot of use to wear out a trumpet, a mouthpiece, a mute or any of this other stuff. I played on the same used mouthpiece for 30 years or so and it’s still in good enough shape that I go back to it occasionally.
