Happy Birthday!

Of these three versions you won’t see one with no sharps or flats here. The big jump in the middle would just go too high. If you have a reliable G at the top of the staff then go for it! (It would start on the second line G.) All three of these keys use the low D, so you’ll need that 3rd valve slide (same old link to the explanation – scroll down to ***).

The first key – in G – has a the octave jump from low D to D in the staff. As with Alouette; If you’re like most beginners your higher D is going to sound a little flat and your lower D is going to be wildly sharp (if you don’t fix it with the third valve slide). The result is that your octave jump will sound bad. You can try to raise that higher D by moving the air faster but you’re still going to have to get that slide out for the low D.

The second key – in F – is probably the winner here. The third key – in D – is for the low-note specialists. There is a low C# near the end that needs the same treatment as a low D but it’s even worse. Send that slide out even more!
